Alexander McQueen “Savage Beauty Exhibition” at Victoria & Albert Museum, London

As we were saying in a previous post, Victoria & Alber Museum prepared to host one of the most anticipated exhibition – the evolution of Alexander McQueen – Savage Beauty Exhibition. The museum finally opened its doors and as we step foot inside we are welcomed by the designer’s words – “London is where I was brought up. It’s where my heart is and where I get my inspiration.

From the first London room, displaying his earliest work, we enter Savage Mind, a space dedicated to his tailoring development, where McQueen tells us: “That’s what I’m here for, to demolish the rules but keep the tradition.”  Opens to public 14th of March, don’t miss it, it will only enrich your soul!

Shoes: Pleasure and Pain – The V&A Summer 2015 Exhibition

The Victoria and Albert Museum, London,  prepares an extraordinary exhibition for the summer fashion of 2015, and the main characters will be SHOES: Pleasure and Pain. The exhibition will take visitors on a cultural journey, from ancient Egypt to nowadays, with more than 200 pairs of historic and contemporary shoes from around the world on display, some for the first time. Dramatic shapes, head spinning high heels, developments in footwear technology.

Shoes are one of the most telling aspects of dress,” Helen Persson, the exhibition’s curator, said. “Beautiful, sculptural objects, they are also powerful indicators of gender, status, identity, taste and even sexual preference. Our choice in shoes can help project an image of who we want to be.”

The exhibition, occupying two floors, is divided into three sections: Transformation – presenting shoes that are part of legends and folklore worldwide; Status – which explores how impractical but beautiful shoes have come to represent privilege; and Seduction –  showing shoes “representing an expression of sexual empowerment or a passive source of pleasure“.
