Sunday Readings – 3 Books That Will Change Your Life Perception

There are so many ways to enlarge our world and I believe that – along with travelling which I am addicted to, for it connects you instantly to the culture of the places and people’s customs – reading adds up a new value to our lives. What can be best than people sharing their life experiences with the  solid purpose of opening new perspectives and new doors towards our evolution? Always have been a reading lover and today I bring to you the 3 books that I recently read and opened up a new way of seeing life for me. Just like in a fashion editorial where each photographer, given the same outfits and model, will create a different story, his story. We are all writers, we write our lives minute after minute, just didn’t have the awareness of that till now. And sometimes, when life takes us in places where we don’t want to be and have no clue how we ended up there, reading makes a difference, because it reveals that all the situations we encounter are self-made and in the same time vital for taking our life to a completely new level.. And I mean personal development books like these, that made me realise that we are the master art directors of the movie called “Life”, and we create all the stories that in the end will make THE story, the life story, of each and every one of us! Don’t waste a minute of it! Is the best gift that we were given – sadly whatever comes for free we take for granted, such as our health, the air that we breathe, the restless pounding heart in our chests, the hearing of music, the delight of tasting a tiramisu, the sight that explores the beauty of this amazing planet, the feelings, the free will.

Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light.” – Vera Nazarian

Enjoy this Sunday’s books proposal!

The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.” – Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now.

Never content or in a gratitude state of mind, we are always on the rush to either be someplace else or have something more – like a different house or drive a better car, fancier chlotes and so on – and we miss the entire process of life happening to us in this exact moment, NOW, no other time, not the past, nevertheless the future. “The Power of Now” is a spiritual guide, translated in over 30 foreign languages, recommended by Oprah Winfrey, helping people to find their true and deepest self. Powerful!

Rich Dad Poor Dad- Robert Kiyosaki

When you are young work to learn, not to earn” – Robert Kiyosaki.

If you take a close look to all the succesful people you’ll notice that the one thing they all have in common is that they never stop learning and improving, and they have an incredible positive, solution focused mindset. Knowledge is power people say – fulfilled people say that putting your knowledges to work, THAT is power! One of the books I stumbled upon recently is “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, sold in over 32 million copies – born in India and raised in Hawaii, american businessman and author, known in the entire world for his financial educational books, had the desire to help people manage in a clever way their assets for a better future. With analogies based on Kiyosaki’s life, the book underlines the importance of financial independence and  building wealth through investing in real estate, assets, or starting your own business. Basically a financial education that we can all benefit from.

The Power Of Intention – Wayne Dyer

You don’t need to be better than any one else you just need to be better than you used to be” – Wayne W. Dyer

Wayne was a psychologist and international speaker and author, with more than 40 published books in the field of self-development. He changed the vision of the world, the value of his work is simply mind-blowing, helping us to take a deep look at ourselves, embrace the inner child that we are and ask him: “Who are you? Is it ok where I have taken you so far? Are you happy?

A mind at peace, a mind centered and not focused on harming others, is stronger than any physical force in the universe.” – Wayne Dyer

Wish you all an amazing Sunday! : )

Manolo Blahnik: Fleeting Gestures and Obsessions

I think, My God, I’ve been through a lot! But I haven’t done yet what I wanted to do, more or less. I want more things, I want to experiment in new materials. In that aspect, I’m very old-fashioned. I’m very curious. Those pages say, ‘Yes, this is what I have done,’ now the children get inspired or they copy or whatever, and I just move on. This book, maybe it’s there to say goodbye to those kind of shoes, [but] the people in the book who inspired me will be with me forever.” – said Blahnik.

Notre Chanel – A New Biography on Mademoiselle by Jean Lebrun

www.astairwaytofashion.com
‘Notre Chanel’ by Jean Lebrun

Gabrielle Chanel, a source of endless inspiration due to her powerful personality and  her ability to continuously reinvent herself, has, since April 2014 when the book was released, a new biography on stands, written by journalist and historian Jean Lebrun –  a man who, aside his now defunct partner, Bernard Costa, lost to AIDS in 1990, investigated her life nearly a quarter century ago, and was determined to complete the work they started together.

The book presents a different kind of biography, a more unexplored side of Mademoiselle, followed from distance, also because of such very few written sources she left behind, that Lebrun, based on unconfirmed origins and unpublished memoirs of persons from Gabrielle’s environment decided to publish. Winner of France’s most prestigious literary prize, the Prix Goncourt, in the category “Best Biography“, Notre Chanel is more than just another biography, is a view on Coco Chanel’s life that we never discovered before, a great addition to the list of books for the summer, available at Amazon.com for $ 38.00.

La Dolce Vita – ” Valentino: At The Emperor’s Table” New Book Release

www.astairwaytofashion.com
Valentino: At The Emperor’s Table

Valentino created an empire, with his long-term partner Giancarlo Giammetti, when back in 1959 they founded the legendary label and created for the high society, like Jackie Onasis‘ wedding gown when she married Aristote OnasisAt The Emperor’s Table is an invitation into the five houses that Valentino owns – in London, New York, at Gstaad in Switzerland, and Paris at Chateau de Wideville – as well as on his yacht, a glimpse of the refined world in which he lives, with photographs taken by Italian photographer, Oberto Gili. A tour of his exquisite object d’art, private parties with the glitterati, table settings, the art of entertaining, as well as Mr. Garavani’s personal chef recipes for each residence – a collection of 220 illustrations that take us straight into his magic land.  “I am in love with beauty. I am very often alone and enjoying my houses. Entertaining thirty or one is the same; the food has to be on a beautiful plate. The dream came true ” – Valentino says.

In the introduction of the book André Leon Talley writes: “ Valentino Garavani designs his luncheons and dinners, in all of his homes, the way he has created crescendos and allegros vivace throughout his forty-plus-year career as one of the greatest haute couture designers and high-fashion leaders in the world. A flan au chevre may be served on Portuguese porcelain at his ski chalet in Gstaad, while a visit to his home in London reveals a ‘decorating masterpiece’ . “

This is not just a book about fashion, but also about l’art de vivre, that Valentino masters so well – “ When you enter his world, you enter the world of luxury; you enter a rare and opulent, yet warm space,” writes Talley. The book, published by Editions Assouline is expected in November at Assouline book stores or www.assouline.com for 100 €.

The House of Worth, published by Abrams, €30.

The House of Worth: Portrait of an archive

Charles Frederick Worth was a British-French couturier who launched his own house in 1858 and is now widely regarded as the founding figure of haute couture. A true visionary, it was Worth who changed the fashion world drastically from the 1850s onwards; he didn’t just design to meet his clients’ needs, Charles Frederick Worth created silhouettes that had never been seen before, marketing them with his own name and holding runway shows to showcase them in luxurious salons. It is also to him that the idea of seasonal fashion can be accredited, as his collections changed over the course of the year to cater to his clients every desire, before they even knew them, themselves. In gathering numerous color illustrations and near to 300 photographs from its own fashion archives, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London has created an Abrams-published work of 176 pages which trace the history of the first Paris fashion house, making it an indispensable reference for one of the most important chapters in fashion history.

Mila Kunis for Gemfields' 2014 Advertising Campaing

Mila Kunis – The New 2014 Face and Global Ambassador of Gemfields

Monday evening a crowd of gemstone lovers showed up to celebrate Gemfields‘ new tabletop book, “Emerald” and the new advertising campaign showing actress Mila Kunis. She had spent seven days in Zambia earlier last year as she had been chosen global ambassador of Gemfields. “It’s really a luxury to own jewellery and gemstones. If you’re in a position to do so, you’re fortunate. Given that, I think it’s important to pay attention to what you’re wearing and where it came from.” said the beautiful Mila.

The new advertising campaign, shot by Peter Lindbergh, is unlike most jewellery ads for Mila is not actually wearing any jewellery. She was captured in her natural beauty, in black and white photos, without wearing any makeup and no hair being styled before the shoot. Also the emeralds are presented in their natural state – unpolished and uncut. “It’s beautiful to go bare. I don’t think enough people do it, and it’s so rare to see a campaign with no makeup that’s kind of effortless. It oddly reflects an emerald. You see all the imperfections in my face the same way that an emerald has imperfections in each and every gemstone” Kunis said.

While in Africa, I learned that the entire journey that each Gemfields stone takes is carefully considered and that the environment and the local communities where its mines are located are held in the highest regard… I truly belive in Gemfields’ mission of ethical mining, and I absolutely have fallen in love with the rarity, beauty and history of emeralds.”
